Cannabis – potential for the London market

19/06/2018

At a glance

Following the news today that former Conservative leader Lord Hague has called for a “decisive change” in the law on cannabis, it is clear that the UK is at a turning point on its attitudes towards cannabis and in particular, medicinal use. We are delighted for the families who are hoping to seek a change in government policy and will continue to be vocal on the importance of the medicinal successes and benefits proven across the world.

CEO, Nick Davis has commented:

“The Cannabis industry represents an enormous opportunity for the London market. At present institutional investors have very limited access to pure play cannabis investments in London, but rather have to go to North America. I am confident this is going to change. The current direction of travel will see the market developing very quickly indeed and with that comes a new asset class in London, which is several years behind other financial centres. We are already seeing a number of cannabis companies who would like to access capital and list in London and are currently working with a medicinal cannabis investment company Ananda plc that will list on the NEX market in July. That is good for the City, but also the UK as a whole. It is not hard to see how in the near future, the recent £20bn pledged by the Prime Minister to the NHS could quickly be partially offset by taxes on the cannabis industry.”
