Memery Crystal has advised prestigious performing arts school, the Urdang Academy, on the sale of its higher education business and assets to City, University of London. As part of the purchase, City acquired the academy’s landmark premises, the Old Finsbury Town Hall, a building of historical significance in Clerkenwell, London.

Urdang Academy is recognised as one of the UK’s finest performing arts colleges, specialising in musical theatre and dance. The Old Finsbury Town Hall is a multi-purpose arts venue with professional dance and music studios, which also serves as a popular venue for events, photo shoots and filming. The purchase of the academy and the celebrated building will help City, University of London in their continuing effort to provide high quality education, by supporting the development of the university’s music and performing arts portfolio.

The work was a collaborative cross-departmental effort that included experts from our corporate, real estate, commercial, banking and employment teams. Daniel Abrahams, co-head of the Real Estate team at Memery Crystal, commented:

“Working on this deal for the Urdang Academy has been a great experience. The Old Finsbury Town Hall is a vintage building that has true character and will be a considerable asset to the purchaser, City, University of London. We particularly enjoy transactions such as this, where we are able to showcase the Memery Crystal multi-disciplinary capabilities. We are pleased to have achieved a great result for our client.’’

Commenting on the deal, Solange Urdang remarked: “The service we received from the Memery Crystal team was exemplary. Everything was straightforward and clear, and we are delighted with the result. The Urdang Academy is one of the UK’s most prolific vocational colleges with an internationally renowned reputation and we are pleased that City is equally committed to carrying on with the same ideals.”

This transaction was led by Daniel Abrahams, co-head of Real Estate, together with Sandra Rodriguez-Brian in the Corporate team.
