Robert Bines-Black and Hannah Maxwell, from Memery Crystal’s Corporate team, attended the Reset Connect conference at London’s ExCel Centre on 28 and 29 June 2022.

The Reset Connect conference is the UK’s largest sustainability ecosystem and green investment event, with a focus on supporting business, finance and industry in the renewable energy industry.

Talks covered sustainable finance and investment in the future; decarbonisation and the need to work collaboratively; and challenges and opportunities in the electric vehicle space.

Robert and Hannah’s top take-aways from the conference are:

  • pension funds may find themselves under pressure to focus their strategies on the renewable space to expand the reach of sustainability in the investment world
  • the electric car revolution requires a long-term strategy, with an emphasis on charging ports being placed in inner city areas where many short, energy-consuming journeys take place
  • sustainability is not simply a tick-box exercise and entails a cultural shift that must become part of a company’s ethos
  • shareholders have a role to help ensure company boards are being brave and committed to effecting positive change.

Memery Crystal advises a number of clients in the renewable and transitional energy sector, including the transitional gas company Chariot Limited (who Robert and Hannah advised on a $30 million fundraise last month) and the clean energy fuel cell tech company AFC Energy plc (who Robert advised on a £35 million fundraise last year).
