We are delighted to announce the appointment of Memery Crystal consultant Sean Rush to the board of The Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN).

In detail

Formerly a partner with the firm, Mr Rush is well qualified for the board role as a former Chairman of the International Bar Association’s UK Energy Lawyer’s Group and former member of the UK’s industry – Government think tank ‘PILOT’. He has spent 20 years working as a lawyer and commercial advisor in the petroleum sector in New Zealand, the UK, Middle East and Canada.

He is now based in New Zealand where in addition to his UK consulting role he has his own practice, Spindletop Law, boutique oil and gas law firm servicing the international petroleum sector.

Sean Rush commented: “I am delighted to be working with Memery Crystal. It provides me with the scope to focus on oil and gas from my home country but to diversify geographically rather than provide services to a range of disparate industries within the confines of New Zealand.

“The AIPN is a major part of the strategy to specialise in combination with the ability to integrate Spindletop’s specialist services with those offered by full service law firms such as Memery Crystal to ensure a broader service can be delivered,” he said.

The AIPN offers oil and gas legal and commercial negotiators the opportunity to be part of a global network of professionals grappling with issues common to the petroleum sector.  It provides the most widely used standardised model form petroleum contracts, the opportunity to participate in international working groups, training opportunities, conferences and access to an archive of research materials and articles recording the experiences of members in respect to petroleum negotiations world-wide.

He hopes to use the appointment to promote the benefits of AIPN membership.  In particular, the adoption of legal and commercial structures that have been successfully tested in other jurisdictions can streamline negotiations leading to the timely conclusion of agreements that are benchmarked against the latest international best practices.

The AIPN has 4,500 members worldwide.
